肖梦涯

当代影像艺术家。2016于纽约帕森斯艺术学院获得纯艺术硕士学位，2021年入学北京大学艺术学院攻读艺术博士学位。作品横跨摄影、雕塑、装置三种主要媒介，擅长用多种材质和灯光的组合营造一个熟悉却又陌生的奇幻世界，在玩味视觉的不确定性中追求有限中的无限

Mengya Xiao is a visual artist, who earned his MFA from Parsons School of Art (NYC) in 2016, was studying at Peking University for PhD since 2021. His works span medias from photography, sculpture and installation. By the marriage of different materials and light settings, he creates a fantasy world which is familiar but strangely beautiful. He is pursuing the infinity by playing the uncertainty of visual perception.

His name Mengya（梦涯） combines two separate Chinese words: “Meng (梦)” is the word of “dream”, “Ya (涯)” is the word of “cliff”. Each of the word quotes from the literature of ancient Chinese philosopher Zhuang Zi (庄子). Zhuang Zi said: “Our life is limited (Our life has Ya). But the world is infinite (The world does not have Ya). You would eventually accept failure if you kept trying chasing the infinity with limitation.” His father gave this name to him by meaning that only dream and creativity could go beyond the boundary or limitation, and get a chance pursuing the infinity.
